Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a moving meditation resulting in calmness and clarity. It maximises body tone, detoxifies and increases all-round health, flexibility, strength and balance. The “Mysore” self-practice style approach has powerful benefits on many levels. Primarily it allows students to progress on a truly personal level with few external distractions. The special serenity, quietness and focus of this class enhances a meditative state.
This format of class caters for all levels. Students are not “led” by a teacher, instead they lead themselves at their own speed and breath through a memorised sequence of postures. The teacher opens the class with a chant and then guides and adjusts students individually, giving one-to-one tuition and hands-on adjustments. New postures from the Ashtanga sequence are explored and added as a student progresses, others may be modified and adapted depending on the individual.
This practice liberates you from dependence on a teacher and leads you to a deeper more profound understanding of both Ashtanga and yoga in general. It directs you away from the stresses of life, to a place of stillness, calm and introspection. It is in this practice that the yoga really becomes a moving meditation.
